Allendale Fibertech designed and manufactures a consumer product that protects a homeowner's deck from the intense heat of a fire pit. DeckProtect™ is marketed by Infinite Heat Solutions, Inc., a partner company that is managed and partially owned by Allendale Fibertech.

No other product on the market is specifically designed for this purpose, and no other product successfully blocks the heat under any fire pit, no matter how hot the day, or how intense the fire. Our unique thermal board made from volcanic basalt fiber will easily withstand heat up to 1400 degrees F., while keeping the heat from transmitting through to the deck.

Fire pit sales have grown by leaps and bounds over the past few years as more and more Americans discover the joy of sitting around an open fire in the comfort and safety of their own backyard patio or deck.

DeckProtect is now available online through a number of nationally known retail companies, including Plow and Hearth, the ATG division of Lowes, and Home Depot. We are also starting to sell the product through brick and mortar stores. For more information, visit

DeckProtect™ is particularly important for homeowners who have composite decking which can start to "soften" at temperatures below 200 F. Trex, leading manufacturer of composite decking, has written a strong recommendation for DeckProtect™ in their installation guide for contractors and homeowners.

Recommended by TREX
From the Trex tech sheet: "Wood burning fire pits are not recommended on top of Trex decking unless using a product called DeckProtect™. Wood burning fire pits can damage the decking due to the extreme heat from the bottom of the fire pit and/or burning embers “shooting” onto the decking. DeckProtect™ was tested on all Trex decking and there were no issues with burning of the decking surface when placed directly under a standard size portable fire pit along with the accompanying rack…It should be noted that even when using DeckProtect™, burning embers could “shoot” beyond the protective mat and burn the deck.

There are, according to Trex, only two ways to use a fire pit on your deck without damaging the decking boards. One way is to build the deck around the fire pit and separate the decking with a fire-resistant material. The other way is to use DeckProtect™. This makes DeckProtect™ the only solution available for decks that have already been built.
